Indigovision Codecs

A family of IP Video Transmitters and Receivers

Tellemachus is a fully accredited IndigoVision Partner

Tellemachus has been working together with IndigoVision as a fully accredited IndigoVision for over 8 years, in order to deliver high quality solutions to our clients in both the public and private sectors.

Not only are all Tellemachus Sales & Technical staffs fully trained in specifying, installing and supporting the full range of IndigoVision equipment, but also for the last 7 years, we have provided bespoke and accredited training on IndigoVision products and solutions.

Codec’s

Tellemachus is able to provide the full range of IndigoVision Codec’s.

IndigoVision codec’s are available in 2 models, VB8000s and VB9000s. The VB8000s are designed to encode video streams in to the MPEG4 format, whereas the VB9000 model is designed to encode video streams into the H.264 format.

Hardware

The Codec hardware comes in various forms aiming to meet all kinds of operational needs.

Standalone

Standalone, single input codec boxes are ideal for applications such as transmitting or receiving a small number of video streams.

The standalone codec’s can be purchased as a transmit/receive box. This codec can be configured to either encode or decode a video stream, which makes this codec extremely flexible. The use of stereo audio comes as standard with these codec’s.

If a more cost effective solution is needed there is a transmit only box. These boxes do not come with audio.

Standalone decoders are also available. These boxes a capable of decoding both 8000 (MPEG4) and 9000 (H.264) streams. These codec’s come with audio as standard.

All standalone codec’s use PoE. Tellemachus also provide standard power supplies with every codec.

Racks and Cards

Codec racks are ideal in larger CCTV and Surveillance situations. 4 Channel and 10 Channel racks are available.

Racks can contain both transmit and receive cards which can also be hot swapped at any time.

Transmit Cards can be configured with or without audio. They have all the same functionality as the standalone transmit codec’s.

Receive Cards can be configured with or without audio. Receive cards can only output Mono audio unlike all the other codec’s that use stereo AAC audio.

All racks are a standard 19” rackmount format.

Features

Activity Controlled Framerate (ACF) is a powerful feature, unique to IndigoVision’s MPEG-4 and H.264 products. When enabled, the unit constantly monitors the amount of motion between frames. When there is no motion in the scene, the frame rate is reduced to one frame per second. When motion occurs, the frame rate is increased to the maximum specified by the user. This can reduce data rates by up to 50-fold, which increases the amount of video which can be stored on an NVR.

Standard Analytics offer significant reductions in false alarm rates. Standard Analytics can be configured to ignore environmental light changes, rain and snow, foxes, cats, moving trees and bushes, etc.

Standard Analytics options are:

  • User-configurable object size
  • Size-based detection
  • Direction-based detection
  • Museum mode

Motion detection is carried out by the transmission unit itself. Sensitivity, region of interest and object size can all be selected using the Motion Detection Configuration web page.

Control Center can display bars on the video showing the current values calculated by the activity and analytics filters running on the transmitter, as well as current alarm thresholds.

Benefits

The benefits of using these codec’s include:

  • Exceptional video and audio quality: Transmitters introduce high quality and high compression MPEG-4 or H.264 video and audio to CCTV and Surveillance applications.
  • High Resolution / High Frame Rate Video: codec’s guarantee 25/30 frames per second at any resolution or bit rate including SIF, 2SIF and 4SIF resolutions.
  • MPEG-4 Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) brings new levels of fidelity and frequency response to CCTV applications.
  • Converts existing analogue -based CCTV to digital remote monitoring systems simply and cost-effectively without equipment obsolescence.
  • The same CAT5 UTP cable is used for real-time video, two-way audio, management of PTZ functions and binary I/O alarm triggers.
  • Multicast technology allows limitless numbers of users to access video and audio streams using the same bandwidth as one user.
  • IP-based video removes geographical barriers thus enabling co-ordinated remote monitoring and communication across multiple locations using standard network interfaces including LANs, WANs, wireless networks and internet communication links.
  • Transmitters / receivers have a built-in firewall which can be configured to restrict communication to specific users.
  • Synchronized clocks: use of the Network Time Protocol (NTP) allows for central maintenance and synchronization of real-time clocks inside IndigoVision devices.
  • Web administration: all administrator settings can be configured through a built-in, password-protected web interface.

Licensing

When purchasing IndigoVision codec’s recording must be kept in mind. Both models of the encoders can be purchased with 2 kinds of license. Please see matrix below to see the differences between recording frame rates and resolutions:
